Vintage fabric endures

I was given the opportunity once again to create a heart keepsake from vintage fabric. I love working with vintage fabric. The history, the colors, the texture, the sentimental value makes it so endearing.

This yard or so of well worn, or as I like to say, "well loved" vintage fabric, in aqua and avocado, had seen better days.

I selected the best area for the pattern, wanting to be sure I could show the lovely flower pattern. Included with the fabric were several original fabric covered buttons. I just had to incorporate these into the finished keepsake. The vintage buttons made the keepsake heart complete.
As a finishing touch I added a new silk ribbon in aqua for a wonderful contrast.

The beauty of vintage fabric.....endures.

This is wonderful! I love the fabric! It would be nice stuffed with a bit of lavender to use as a drawer or air freshener.

Dear Fran,

I love all of your work. I counted 46 of your beautiful little heart keepsakes that I have sent to family and friends for various occasions...births, deaths, birthdays and just as "I love you" messages. Thank you for all of your blessings from these little hearts which are so special to those who receive them.

Love you,
Linda Browder

Very pretty! You could make one into a potpourri holder.. stuff lavender or a nice smelling scent in it.. I think that would make a nice addition. =)

Anyway, thanks for dropping by my blog. I can already imagine a million different ways you can organize your threads and fabric.
But organize is my word for 2012 too! =)

Fran,
Thank you for making me such a beautiful and sentimental heart. When I found out my step-mother had to get her chair refinished, I insisted she give me the fabric. I knew immediately that I wanted to ask you to make a heart out of it. The fabric/chair originally belonged to her grandmother. When I presented her with the heart on Christmas, she absolutely loved it!!! Thank you for such a creative way to keep the fabric in the family for many more years. Also, the cards you made for me are gorgeous.
Thanks again,
Angela

This is beautiful! I love the feel of vintage fabrics as well.
My husband's grandmother used to make little hearts similar to yours for all her grandkids on Valentine's. We cherish them.
I just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog. So glad to make your acquaintance. :)
